7 Days Uganda & Rwanda Safari

Enjoy this 7-day Uganda and Rwanda wildlife safari for bird watching, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, game viewing, and boat cruising experiences guided by Engagi Safaris. The places to visit include Mabamba wetland, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Forest, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. We shall start from Entebbe, Uganda, ending in Kigali, Rwanda

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up – Birding in Mabamba & transfer to Kibale Forest Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed and picked up by the driver guide from Engagi Safaris. Meet, greet, and drive to Mabamba wetland for a shoebill experience. The canoe ride through the swamp offers you the chance to see the iconic shoebill and other birds that live there. You will then drive to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda for dinner and overnight at Kibale Forest Lodge

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi wetland

Have an early morning breakfast and with a packed lunch, go for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park.  You will first register with the park wardens, who will also brief you on the expectations of this day. At 8:00 am, hike into the forest searching for man’s closest relative. The park is also home to 12 more primates, which makes it the “Primate Capital of Africa”. The allowed time with chimpanzees is strictly an hour from the time you see them.  In the afternoon, go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland, which houses many birds and primates. Dinner and overnight at Kibale Forest Lodge

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Boat cruising & Birding

Have an early morning breakfast, check out, and embark on a drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second largest park.  Arrive in the afternoon, check in, and go for a boat cruise and birding experience at Kazinga Channel.  The banks of Kazinga channel shelter birds such as African fish eagle, Hammerkop, White egrets, Yellow-billed stork, African kingfisher, and Ibises, among others. Dinner and overnight at Eshama Game Lodge

Day 4: Game viewing/Bird watching & transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Very early today, go for game drives in the open plains of Kasenyi for an exceptional game viewing experience. You will see various wild animals, which include Lions, Elephants, buffalo, Leopards, Uganda kobs, and waterbucks, among others. The park also shelters various birds, which you will see during the drive. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast and early lunch. In the afternoon, check out and drive to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight at Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort

Day 5: 1st Gorilla trekking & transfer to Kisoro

Today you will rise early, enjoy a hefty breakfast, and with a packed lunch, drive to Ruhija park heaters f a briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. You will be allocate

ed one of the 20 gorilla families in Bwindi Forest for trekking. The actual gorilla trek starts at 8:00 am and can last for between 30 minutes to over 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. However, you are 99% sure of seeing the endangered primates at the end of the trek. You will later transfer to Kisoro for dinner and overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel

Day 6: 2nd Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga

Wake up early, on a heavy breakfast, and with a packed lunch, drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for the 2nd gorilla trekking adventure. Start by registering with the park wardens and attending the pre-gorilla trekking briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking.  You will then start the hike up in the jungle forest searching for the one and only Nyakagyezi gorilla family.  You will be allowed to spend an hour with gorillas, rewarding you with a lifetime encounter. Later on, drive back to Kisoro for dinner and overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel

Day 7: Golden monkey trekking & departure

Very early today, go for golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to enjoy an encounter with the playful, lively golden monkeys. Enjoy seeing how these amazing creatures socialize and live together in their communities. Later on, drive to Kigali city for your connecting flight
