TOP LAKES TO VISIT IN UGANDA
Uganda is situated in the great lakes’ region of Africa with a lot of lakes and rivers which covers approximately a third of the country. The country has over 160 lakes which include; Lake Victoria the largest in Africa, lake Bunyonyi the second deepest in Africa, lake gorge, lake Edward, lake Nkuruba, lake Mburo, lake Albert, lake mutanda, kabaka’s lake, lake bisina among others. Uganda also has several crater lakes which include; lake katwe, lake Nyinambuga lake Nkuruba, lake Kyaninga, Ndali-Kasenda crater lakes, and lake Nyinambuga.

1.Lake Victoria.
This is the largest lake in Africa covering an area of 59,947 square kilo meters, locally known as Nalubaale. The lake is divided among the 3 east African countries of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Lake Victoria harbors over 3000 islands, which include Ssese islands, Bugala island, Kalangala island and others. The lake lies between the eastern and the southern arms of the east African rift valley.
What to do on Lake Victoria.

Island visits. Lake Victoria has islands which include; Ssese islands, these consists of 84 islands located in the north western part of Lake Victoria. Bugala island which is the largest on Lake Victoria, Banda and Koome island. The islands are also home to different primates.
Fishing. Lake Victoria has a lot of fishing spots anyone can enjoy to their satisfaction. You are strictly allowed to catch only mature fish. The activity is fun more so when you joined with the locals who will teach you their traditional tactics of fishing. The guide will brief you on the best and less dangerous fishing sports. The most caught fish species are the tilapia and the large Nile perch.
Source of the nile. It’s a great experience for you to see where the water that flows into the longest river comes from. this is a point where the nile water starts its journey from, from Lake Victoria and travels to Sudan and Egypt.
2.Lake Bunyonyi
lake Bunyonyi is located in south western Uganda. It is one of the deepest and most beautiful lakes in Africa at about 900 meters deep. Lake Bunyonyi has 29 beautiful islands, it is near Mgahinga gorilla national park and Bwindi impenetrable national park which makes it a great place to relax after your gorilla tracking and habituation experience.

The lake is approximately 612 meters deep, located between Uganda and Congo.

4.Lake Edward and lake George.
These beautiful lakes are located on the flow of the great east African rift valley shared by Uganda and Congo. These lakes are connected by the kazinga channel which is meandering through queen Elizabeth national park. lake Edward is at a depth of 913 meters while lake gorge is at 250 square kilo meters.
5.Lake Kyoga.
The lake is shallow and large. Its is at a depth of 4-5.7 meters covering an area of about 1,720 kilo meters. The lake has extensive wetlands around it. The lake has 56 fish species, the nile crocodile.
