Your safari begins in Kigali.
Our safari guide will meet you at your hotel or Kigali International Airport before you begin the journey north towards Volcanoes National Park.
The drive takes you through Rwanda's distinctive countryside, where green hills, cultivated farmland and rural communities create beautiful scenery along the way.
If you arrive in Kigali early enough, you can begin the day with a city experience before continuing towards the Volcanoes region. Depending on your interests and available time, this can include selected cultural or historical sites in Kigali.
Continue towards Musanze, the gateway town to Volcanoes National Park.
After arriving, check into your lodge and settle in.
The remainder of the afternoon can be spent relaxing and preparing for tomorrow's gorilla trek. Your guide can brief you about the following day's programme and help you prepare for your forest adventure.

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda safari.
Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before travelling to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing.
The park team will allocate you to a gorilla family and provide guidance on trekking procedures and responsible gorilla viewing.
You then enter the forest with experienced trackers and guides.
The trek can take several hours because mountain gorillas move freely through their natural habitat. The exact duration depends on where the gorilla family is located and how far you need to walk to find them.
As you move through the forest, pay attention to the surrounding environment. Volcanoes National Park is not only about the gorillas; the forest, volcanic landscape and other wildlife all contribute to the experience.
Eventually, the trackers may locate the gorilla family.
This is the moment many travellers have been waiting for.
Spend your permitted viewing time observing the gorillas as they feed, rest, move through the vegetation and interact with one another. Follow the instructions of your ranger throughout the encounter and maintain the required distance.
After the trek, return from the forest and travel back to your lodge.
Take the afternoon to relax after the trek. Depending on your energy and the available time, you may choose an optional nature walk or community experience.
