This 3-day Uganda gorilla trekking safari from Kigali is a compact itinerary for travellers who want to experience Uganda’s mountain gorillas while beginning and ending their journey in Rwanda.
The trip takes you from Kigali into southwestern Uganda, with the main experience taking place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi has four main gorilla trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.
The exact sector and accommodation should match the gorilla permit secured for your travel date. This is particularly important because gorilla permits are tied to designated entry points.

Your safari begins in Kigali, where your safari guide meets you in the morning.
After breakfast, depart Kigali and drive towards southwestern Uganda. The journey takes you through Rwanda's beautiful countryside before crossing into Uganda.
Depending on the chosen route and border crossing, you continue towards the Bwindi region and your selected trekking sector.
The drive itself becomes part of the experience. You pass rolling hills, rural communities and changing landscapes as you approach the mountainous forests of southwestern Uganda.
After arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch.
The afternoon provides time to relax after the journey and prepare for the following day's trek. Your guide can brief you about the gorilla trekking experience, including what to expect in the forest and how to prepare for changing trail conditions.
If time allows, you can enjoy a short community or nature experience around the lodge.

Wake up early and have breakfast before heading to the designated Uganda Wildlife Authority trekking point.
Your morning begins with registration and briefing before you enter the forest with the ranger guides and tracking team.
The trek can take several hours because mountain gorillas move freely through their natural habitat. Uganda Wildlife Authority notes that gorilla treks may last approximately 2 to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you find the assigned family, visitors receive one hour of observation.
The forest itself forms an important part of the experience. Bwindi is an exceptionally biodiverse ancient rainforest, and while searching for gorillas you may encounter other forest life and experience the changing vegetation and terrain.
When you locate the gorilla family, follow the ranger's instructions and observe the animals respectfully. The encounter is not simply about taking photographs; it offers a rare opportunity to see mountain gorillas in their natural environment.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
The rest of the afternoon is free to recover from the trek or enjoy an optional local experience, depending on your energy and departure plans.

For travellers with late flights, the journey can provide an opportunity to enjoy one final view of Rwanda's famous hilly countryside before reaching Kigali.
Your safari ends in Kigali with a drop-off at your hotel, airport or another agreed location.
