When hiring a car from Engagi Safaris Ltd you have three options, to fit your budget and travelling style: Comfort – the Toyota Hilux, Classic – the Land Cruiser, and Budget – the Toyota RAV4. The Land Cruiser and RAV4 are reliable 4×4 vehicles widely used in Uganda and perfect for self-drive tours. The Toyota Hilux is the newer and most comfortable option, and more likely to meet expectations for roadtrippers with safari experience in southern Africa.
We own all our rental cars and we never subcontract from third parties. Each car is serviced at our workshop after every trip and we have a close network of upcountry workshops for minor onsite repairs. In case you have a breakdown, rest assured that we offer 24/7 roadside assistance and always have a replacement vehicle ready. Our customer service is uncomparable!
Your safari classic – the Toyota Landcruiser box model. Classic, sturdy and reliable. It’s automatic, has a 5-cylinder diesel engine and high ground clearance. Fuel consumption strongly depends on terrain, driving behaviour and load, but is in the range of 8 km/liter.
Be aware that these vehicles are well-maintained second hand vehicles, so the quality of the audio or air conditioning is not comparable to a new car you might drive at home. This is the 5-door RAV4’s little brother, but other than size, there are no differences between the two. Both RAV4s are automatic and have the same engine.
The smaller 3-door model fits two people with camping gear, or three people if you’re not camping and only take personal luggage.
It’s NOT possible to travel to Kidepo and Karamoja areas in a RAV4; the Landcruiser or Hilux is required. Read more…..
The RAV4 is Uganda’s most widely used 4×4. Sporty, compact and robust, as well as easy and economical to drive. It’s automatic and in permanent four-wheel-drive. Fuel consumption is very low compared to the Landcruiser: around 10-12 km/liter.
Our RAV’s are well maintained, second hand vehicles. The 5-door model can fit up to four people. If you’re camping in Uganda with three adults or more, the Hilux or Landcruiser would be the car to choose. It is NOT possible to travel to Kidepo and Karamoja in a RAV4. Read more…
