Klaserie

Klaserie

Klaserie, just west of the Kruger National Park, on each side of the Klaserie Rivier, is the vast 600 km² (232 square miles) of wilderness that constitutes the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. On your Klaserie safari journey, you will encounter the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. You will also encounter some of Africa’s less well-known animals, such as cheetahs and wild dogs.

Klaserie’s selection of safari camps and lodges caters to families, groups of friends, honeymooners, and discriminating tourists seeking upscale luxury. Makumu Lodge is a suitable option for families because it allows them to reserve a full lodge with no age limitations for the children. Couples will love the fully catered or self-catering options offered by the Klaserie Drift, Senala, and Klaserie Camps.

Highlights of the Klaserie

At some of the reserve’s most picturesque outdoor locations, lodges serve custom bush dinners and traditional barbecues. For a night in the African bush that is truly immersive, you can even set your camp at certain water holes.
One of the most thrilling adventures in the African wilderness is going on a walking safari with a knowledgeable ranger. You’ll be completely engrossed in the sights and sounds of the surroundings and get a unique viewpoint on animals.
The best chances of sighting animals are on twice-daily game excursions in open 4×4 cars on the private reserves. With knowledgeable guides who are able to drive off-road, unlike in the Kruger’s public regions, you’ll quickly cross off Big Five sightings. Additionally, some lodges provide night drives.

Useful Details for Klaserie

East of Johannesburg, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is about a six-hour journey away. You can obtain a connecting flight to a nearby airport near Kruger from OR Tambo International Airport, where daily domestic and international flights land. It takes 45 minutes to reach the reserve from Hoedspruit, which has the nearest local airport.
Although special safari attire is not required, we advise wearing neutral colors like beige, brown, green, and khaki. Brighter hues attract insects, making it more challenging for animals to perceive you and flee.
Be ready for hot days and pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Bring warm clothes, as it can get very cold at night and in the mornings depending on the season.
Before you depart, ask a doctor about malaria medicine because there is a risk in this region of South Africa. Prophylactic treatment is advised.
