Addo Combats Rhino Poaching with AI Collar Tracking: Addo Elephant National Park has rolled out some cool new intelligent collars that use AI algorithms to keep an eye on the rhinos and help protect them from poaching. JP Louw, the spokesperson for SANParks, shared that the tracking collar helps quickly track and respond to any poaching activities by sending instant alerts with the GPS locations of the rhinos.

This technology helps keep an eye on different behaviors like fighting, mating, and birthing, which is really useful for conserving these endangered animals and their habitats in this Big Five park that spans 180,000 hectares. Stop Rhino Poaching, Animal Survival International, Dancing for Rhinos, and Rouxcell Technology have donated 31 collars.

In 2023, there was a 10.3% rise in rhino poaching in South Africa. On private land, rhinos were killed 93 times, and on state land, they were killed 406 times. Addo Elephant National Park, located close to Gqeberha in South Africa, is actually the third-largest national park in the country.
